Darkoath – Guide, Tactics and Overview

The Darkoath are savage, honor-bound warriors who pledge brutal oaths to the Dark Gods, proving their worth through relentless battle. Originating from scattered tribes, they despise Sigmar’s forces and fight for dominance among themselves. Their leaders, Chieftains and Warqueens, must constantly demonstrate strength—or risk becoming monstrous Wilderfiends.

Key Units and Roles

  • Darkoath Marauders – Basic infantry with two weapon options, Toughness 4, and reliant on leaders for tactical advantage.

  • Darkoath Fellriders – Agile cavalry with javelins or axes, 10" movement, and abilities like Swift Attacker for hit-and-run tactics.

  • Darkoath Wilderfiend – A feral beast with brutal attacks, Toughness 5, and the devastating Eye of the Dark Patron ability, triggering nearby Darkoath units.

Notable Characters

  • Gunnar Brand – A ruthless leader on a Skaven-hunting vendetta.

  • Warqueen Tanari – A powerful commander allied with Gunnar, leading with discipline and brutality.

  • Singri Brand – A defiant warrior seeking revenge against the Dark Gods, wielding her own path amidst chaos.

Abilities and Tactics

  • Swift Attacker (Double) – Grants a bonus ranged attack after movement.

  • Healing Surge (Double) – Fellriders with axes can restore up to 6 wounds.

  • Eye of the Dark Patron (Quad) – The Wilderfiend activates an ally, damages an enemy, and boosts its own attacks.

Why Play Darkoath?

  • Aggressive playstyle – Fast, hard-hitting warriors who thrive in combat.

  • Thematic narrative gameplay – Live by the oath or suffer the consequences.

  • Flexible unit options – Infantry, cavalry, and a monstrous powerhouse.

Swear your oaths, embrace the path of Chaos, and carve your legend in the Mortal Realms!

Teratic Cohort – Guide, Tactics and Overview

The Teratic Cohort comprises Ossiarch Bonereapers who have failed Nagash, the Great Necromancer. As punishment, they are reshaped into bestial forms, retaining their consciousness and a glimmer of hope for redemption.

Key Units and Roles

  • Kavalos Centauri: Once Liege-Kavalos leaders, now merged with their mounts, they serve as swift commanders, monitored through a Nadirite eye.

  • Mortek Cykloptian: Retaining humanoid forms but with bestial legs, these units are re-engineered for enhanced speed, ensuring they are never outpaced again.

  • Aviarch Harpies: Transformed into winged beings without hands, they are denied the use of Nadirite weapons due to past failures but now provide aerial advantages on the battlefield.

  • Teratic Prowlers: Reformed into canine shapes, these units are tasked with relentless hunting, embodying their punishment for perceived corruption or brokenness.

Abilities and Tactics

  • Bestial Leaps (Double): Allows a 3" bonus move as if flying, enhancing mobility.

  • Eyes of Katakros (Double): Once per battle round, roll up to 6 dice; for each 5+, gain a wild dice, introducing an element of chance to strategy.

  • Nadirite Strike (Double): Adds +2 to attacks in the next melee action; with two wild dice, critical hits are scored on a 5+, increasing offensive potential.

  • Unleashed Rage (Triple): A critical hit from the next melee action generates an additional critical hit; with two wild dice, this increases to two additional critical hits, amplifying damage output.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Straightforward warband with clear roles.

Cons:

  • Limited list-building options.

  • Reliance on wild dice mechanics may not always be rewarding.

  • Lack of ranged attacks or abilities.

The Teratic Cohort offers a thematic and straightforward playstyle, focusing on melee combat and strategic use of abilities. However, players should be mindful of its limitations in list-building and the inherent risks in its reliance on wild dice mechanics.
